Spectacular new GREEN LANTERN artist one to watch

Well, I've been reading the new GREEN LANTERN series even though I swore I would never touch a GREEN LANTERN comic book after what DC did to Hal (yes, I'm one of THOSE cranky old fans), but Geoff Johns writing had me hooked from the very first issue. Johns managed to heal a decades-long tear in the GL fabric in just TWO FLIPPING ISSUES! I was aghast and delighted... there really ARE still some good writers out there! So, I've been on board since the relaunch and have been enjoying the heck out of things, even though I'm not a complete Continuity Nerd. Half of the fun has been the incredible artwork of Ethan Van Sciver for most of the first few issues, and it was with much trepidation that I picked up issue number 6 of GREEN LANTERN, with art by SIMONE BIANCHI. I needn't have worried. The art is SPECTACULAR, and I don't throw that term around loosly. Take a gander at one of the interior pages I scanned:

Sheer beauty. SIMONE BIANCHI, please do some more comic books! I will be keeping my eyes peeled...

Hmm...at first glance, I thought the art in this book was pretty darn good too. I still do - sort of.

When I finished reading this issue, I said to myself "This issue didn't flow nearly as well as the previous GLs. Some parts of it bordered on incoherent." I kinda felt dumb...

Then I read two reviews online that claimed that as an artist, Biachi blew some very basic storytelling cues. I don't exactly know what he did wrong, but I do know that my reaction to the book was that something was amiss.

Here's what I say: to glance at his pages, his work is extremely nice. In terms of getting the story across through his pencils, he has room to improve.

Why do I think you care what I think? Who knows....

Hmmmmm... I will give this another look... maybe the artist needs help with layouts?

And hey, I like your comments... keep 'em coming. I also like your reviews... well thought out and interesting IMHO.
