The Weekend Comics Chat Open Thread - the Words to Live By Edition!

OK, let's get down to brass tacks. (What does that even mean?) What did you read this week? Anything good? Anything not so good?

Amongst the comics I read was DMZ #10, written by Brian Wood and with art by Riccardo Burchielli. This issue was part 5 of a 5 issue story arc, and neatly wraps up the "Body of a Journalist" storyline. This book is just plain great. It takes place slightly into the future in the middle of a war in which Manhattan Island is a war zone... and a young news cameraman finds himself unwillingly thrust into the DMZ that is New York City. (The first five issues are collected into a trade for easy jumping on!)
Oh, and HERE'S a link to DC's website and DMZ where you can view issue #1 in it's entirety!
So what did you read?

...its like the whole weeks worth of comics are on the top of my reading pile...more than enough reason to check this weeks stuff...
I read everything I usually get from this week, except New Avengers...I forgot it at the store...waaaah.
But still Astonishing X-Men was great Ulitmate Spider-Man #99 was killer. Wolverine and Batman were good too. I was surprised, but I really enjoyed JLA #1.
I think the phase "Get down to brass tacks" is a refernce to brass tacks being the basis for upholster work on furniture, thus getting down to the basics. Maybe.
Anyway, new avengers was great as well as Astonishing Xmen. Also if you have not been reading Ultimate Spiderman, this is the way the close saga should have gon on.
I agree guyfawkes. I've never read the clone saga, as I was a toddler when it first came out, I've heard what fans say about it, so I've gathered that the execution was not good.
I have to ask some other people who have been reading USM: Do you think that the clone Peter that kidnapped MJ is going to be Ultimate Kaine?
ASTONISHING X-MEN is the best X-Men book since Morrison's run...
I Agree, Bill. The only thing I wish was different...Joss Whedon and John Cassaday are only staying for 24 issue run...can't they stay on for 54 issues like Morrison?
Hey some stuff I've read this week....
Heros for Hire... Really like it. Love the art. I give it 4 out of 5 chicken legs.
JLA 1 Nice start, art is good. 3 1/2 drumsticks out of 5.
Wolverine. Love the story. Logen vs Subby. But the Art left me flat. 3 out of 5
Hawkgirl. Like the spooky feel of the book. But the bad chick does nothing for me. 2 and a half out of 5 chicken legs!
Bye for now!

I thought the art in Wolverine was alright. I just kind of get into the cartoony-ness of it. I wouldn't normally like it, but...I dunno.
I kind of read Heroes For Hire in a bit of a hurry, so I'll have to re-read it.
