Brooklyn Superhero Supply

I recently ran across this neat place: The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company!

It's a real place, but maybe not quite what it seems... From this website:

Located in the stroller-ridden neighborhood of Park Slope, aspiring superheroes can re-stock their secret underground lair, trick out their utility belt and even purchase anti-matter. It’s like Cosco for Superheroes. But despite the grappling hooks and underwear-on-the-outside costumes, the true genius of the operation is tucked behind the store, hidden behind a secret bookshelf. The not so discreet superhero storefront is actually just a front for an after school tutoring facility known as 826NCY. Modeled after 826 Valencia, a nonprofit writing lab and tutoring center in San Francisco’s Mission District, 826NYC opened its doors in September 2004 and is dedicated to helping students, ages 6-18, develop their writing skills. They provide after school drop-in tutoring as well as evening and weekend workshops specializing in topics such as creative writing, student publications and college essays. The non-profit organization makes between a third and half of its revenue from selling the superhero novelty items and receives the rest through grants and donations. Since its launch two years ago, the program has helped over one thousand students improve their writing skills and has accumulated approximately 250 volunteers.

Now THAT'S cool! I'd love to visit and get a couple of those cans of "NEGATIVE ENERGY" to put on my bookshelf... the perfect accent for any comic library!

Anybody up in Brooklyn ever visit this place?
