Masters of Comic Art

Years ago I had a friend give me a video tape of a program called Masters of Comic Book Art, a documentary hosted by Harlan Ellison and directed by Ken Viola in 1987. The program featured interviews with a variety of key creators in the world of comics such as Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, Harvey Kurtzman, Steve Ditko, Neal Adams, Dave Sim, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Miller, and Moebius. It's my favourite comic related program to watch, especially when I am in need of creative inspiration.

I don't know how many of you have ever seen this, but I was able to find some clips on youtube. I was hoping more of this documentary was available, but it looks like only two segments are floating around out there. If you have a little bit of time though, check these segments out. I think you'll find them enlighting.

I so envy your potential plans for the weekend. I really need to start doing more in my time away from this place.

But why no love for Sim?

talking heads are great and thats why i love clowes and ware...

but talking heads in a car going eighty through a flaming barrage of ninja zombies doesn't lose any humanity to me...

its "hey how would you react if this was happening to you?"

i already know what grocery shopping and the public pool are like and thats fun too.

i guess him saying "i don't watch adventure films and genre films" just came off a bit elitist and smug?

"missing the escense of what it is to be human" ???

It could be said that his sunglasses and flashy earrings are missing the escense of what it is to be a natural human being!

fist fights and car chases do happen plenty and it's just the human condition exaggerated and made fun for people who want something more at that moment.

Art can be defined by Dave Sim for Dave Sim only.

Life is cliche.

Its just seems too complicated to sound so sure of yourself.

My opinion is that i don't like his opinion and he and i should have a fist fight while driving at high speeds...NUFF SAID!

And dis' is fo' rizzle!
