WOW! THANKS, EVERYONE!

Another Free Comic Book Day fades into the mists of history... and I must say BOY was that fun! As usual, it's great to see everyone come out and snag some freebies and perhaps some bargains, and even have a lot of fun while doing so! Our thanks go out to all of you who came in to the stores and helped celebrate the coolest day of the year! I was literally so crazy busy that I almost forgot to take some pics at the Mechanicsburg store, except for these few:

ZOMBIE SHOPPERS! No, really. Lori and her pal love zombies!

The ever-helpful Triple-G putting his pinkie finger to good use.

Local artist/writer Olivia Hayes signing her debut graphic novel. Olivia is so cool she gave me an autographed copy with a SKETCH inside! Thanks, Olivia!

Dave letting me know that my lobster thermidor has arrived.

Dessert graciously provided by PJ! Thanks man, they really hit the spot and helped soak up all the java we were drinking!

Neighbor Jeremy provided this cake, which made me laugh out loud. Thanks, that's awesome!

Eleven hours later - closing time with the night shift.

Thanks also go out to every single one of the Comix Connection Counter Monkeys™! Thank you Jared, Jim, Josh, Joe (too many J-Monkeys!), Gregg, Tony, Dave, Dan, Matt and Shawn! You guys are awesome and are real troopers - kudos all around!

Great fun. Thanks again everyone! Oh, and if you didn't manage to get in on Saturday, rest assured we still have lots of FREE COMIC BOOKS for you, so come on in and grab a couple-three. (And keep your eyes peeled... we're working on an event for later in the summer that just might turn out to be even MORE fun than Free Comic Book Day, if that's possible.)

AMELIA RULES the stage!

Local artist/writer Jimmy Gownley's AMELIA RULES! comic is set to take to the stage in December!

From Diamond Comics Distributor's website:

Adapted from a Christmas story that appeared in Amelia Rules! Volume 1: The Whole World’s Crazy, the musical details the adventures of super-hero wannabe Reggie Grabinsky as he recruits other would-be heroes to try to prove Santa is a fraud. Boasting a mostly child cast (featuring 11-year-old Kasey Perkins as Amelia), the production, which runs from December 6-7 in Marlborough, NH features music and lyrics by local musician/composer Michael Cohen and is produced by Small Pond Productions. Plans to make the musical available to other theater companies are in the works. For more information, please visit www.smallpondpresents.com.

“As editor of the Amelia Books I’ve been with these characters since their inception, and watched them grow and mature over the years,” said Cohen. “Knowing them so well made writing the songs for this musical so much easier, more like writing songs for old friends.”

“It’s going to be a real thrill to see all these talented people bring my comic book to life,” said Amelia Rules! creator Gownley. “Michael’s songs are great, and I can’t wait until opening night!”

The widely acclaimed series deals with the relocation of Amelia Louise McBride from Manhattan to a small town after her parents’ divorce, and her efforts to cope with the traumatic event. Like Charles Schulz’s Peanuts and Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes, Gownley’s funny, poignant and heartwarming stories appeal to a wide demographic, including educators, librarians, parents, kids and the young-at-heart.

The above paragraph is absolutely true... if you've never read AMELIA RULES, stop by either store and grab a copy of the Free Comic Book Day AMELIA RULES! comic book. We like to keep that one in stock all year 'round!

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS, Jimmy! That is very very cool!

A Christmas Story House

I'm sure you're all familiar with the modern classic A CHRISTMAS STORY, so there's no need for me to remind you of the adventures of Ralphie and his family at Chistmas in some indeterminate late-1930s/early 1940s America in some indeterminate middle-American town... author Jean Shepard really taps into what we all would imagine a purely nostalgic Christmas would look like. Anyway, I'm sure this'll be on again around the holidays and you can see all the familiar A CHRISTMAS STORY icons like the Old Man, The Furnace, The Bumpass's Dogs and of course The Lamp.

Well how about a visit to the actual HOUSE used in the filming? Yes, you can journey to that quintessential American Christmas icon, and maybe even meet some of the actors from “A Christmas Story”, like Randy, Flick, Scut Farkus, Grover Dill, Miss Shields, and the evil elves at FIRST ANNUAL “A CHRISTMAS STORY” CONVENTION on FRIDAY & SATURDAY, NOV. 23 & 24, 2007 in Cleveland!

Whadda ya say? Who's up for a ROADTRIP?

My parole officer. Kidding! A guy dressed like Mike Hawthorne, artist! And he made the costume himself!

I know I missed a bunch of you because of camera (OK photographer) malfunction, etc. Sorry about that! At least every one who showed up in costume got their TEN FREE COMICS (your choice) out of the back issue bins, right?
