The most awesome Star Wars costume ever

This one comes from alert reader Rich Spidle... the most awesome Star Wars costume EVER, Scott Holden's TaunTaun costume:

"Three years ago I decided I wanted to make a Tauntaun costume for the Zone Ball in Sacramento. My wife advised me that it would be best to start as soon as I had finished building the house."

CLICK HERE to see the step-by-step process. It's amazing. Some people are 1) incredibly talented and 2) have too much free time on their hands, for which I'm very glad.

Resident Star Wars Uber-Geek Nicky, what do you think?

The Greatest Nerd Ever, Setting The Bar For Other Nerds

Yesterday, model-rocket builder Steve Eves launched his 1/10-scale SATURN-V replica rocket in Price, Maryland. Check out the video:

HERE'S an in-depth article on the man and his toy.

That was completely awesome. Of course, nothing beats a spacelaunch at Cape Canaveral, Florida, but this was a hand-built monster. The rocketry nerd in me is very happy right now.

I thought this was very well done

Best Photography Award - GI Joe Fest 2008, 2nd GI Joe stop motion film Festival, Denver, CO. USA

Who knew there was such an event?

(WARNING: Toy gore!)

I think John Carpenter's THE THING is one of my favorite movies by him, along with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and CHRISTINE. We used to joke that EVERY SINGLE ONE of his self-composed soundtracks all sounded the same because he did them all on a cheap Casio keyboard on the same weekend. The song to this video is definitely an homage to Carpenter's songs, and sounds like one of his rejected tunes.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Poodle

Yes, that's a real poodle.

I have to go lie down now. Like a good doggie.

Is this wrong?

I was just checking out the newest LEGO stuff on their website, when I ran across this playset:

So of course my first thought was "Do they have a bunch of little red Lego pieces for when the mechanic gets blendered by the propeller?"

Heh heh.

Solar Death Ray hijinx!

Mike Bollinger sent me this some time ago:

SolarDeathRay.com: The #1 Death Ray On The Internet!

Everyone but me thought we should shake the Jiffy Pop, and I finally agreed. Shaking the Jiffy Pop means shaking the entire Solar Death Ray, which is why I hesitated. However, shaking proved to be critical, and soon we could hear popcorn poppin'! After Jiffy Pop's trademark dome had deployed, we shut down the death ray and examined the popcorn. It was a bit overdone, no doubt due to being heated in an unconventional orientation by an unconventional heat source. Race tasted some. The popcorn, which had been forged in the glow of the sun's fusion energy, didn't give Race superpowers as we had hoped. It did bestow a burnt aftertaste, however, so we all considered this a huge success.

I love science!

For that hard-to-buy-for comic fan

How about a "Comic Mesh Baseball Cap"?

No, I don't want one... I find it hard to destroy comics on purpose. I accidentally remove a few comic books from the existing pile every year due to unfortunate tape accidents.
At least these are made from recycled stuff.
