Manager Jared's Weekly Matchup Poll #17

This week I'm doing it a little differently. I think that with a little odd variety it will make the match ups a little more thought provoking and add a little fun as far as debate. So this weeks poll is really weird as we have Metamorpho and the Green Goblin square off!

The Contender's Powers:

Green Goblin- Superhuman strength, intellect, stamina, durability, agility and reflexes due to ingesting the "Goblin Serum". Regenerative healing factor. Uses goblin-themed weapons and a "Goblin Glider" which has a variety of offensive weapons as paraphernalia.

Manager Jared's Weekly Matchup Poll #16

Usually Venom enhances Bane's strength, but in this case i think Venom has a chance of hindering it! Sorry, bad joke aside, we have an evil blow for blow battle with two near unstoppable forces. The Sentry ripped Carnage in half, can Bane do the same to Venom? Bane broke Batman's back but it seems unlikely that he'll be able to break the symbiote's back. Lets see what you think.

Bane's Abilities: Peak human physical condition; Venom enhances his physical abilities to superhuman levels, genius-level intellect, expert strategist, martial artist and escapologist.

Venom's Abilities: Grants the host all the powers of its first known host, Spider-Man. Greatly enhances physical attributes of its current host. Superhuman strength, ability to change form, and ability of the symbiote to fight and defend itself when either the host or it is in danger. Limited shape shifting. It can also turn its host invisible through camouflage.

Manager Jared's Weekly Matchup Poll #12

Two of the biggest villians in comics today battle each other to the finish. Both super geniuses and equiped with battle armor. Who will come out on top? Its up to you to decide!

Dr. Doom- Intellect, mind transferral, magic, powered armor. The character has also used his scientific talents to steal or replicate the power of other beings such as the Silver Surfer, or in one case the the Beyonder. He is capable of energy projection, creating protective shields, and summoning hordes of demonic creatures. The alien Ovoids taught Doom the process of psionically transferring his consciousness into another nearby being through a simple eye contact. Doom's armor augments his natural physical strength to superhuman levels and is highly resistant to harm, at one point even surviving heat levels equal to that of the sun. In addition, the armor can generate a defensive force field and a massive electric shock disabling anyone who might come in contact with Doom. The armor is self-supporting, equipped with internal stores and recycling systems for air, food, water, and energy, allowing the wearer to survive lengthy periods of exposure underwater or in outer space.

Lex Luthor- Super Intellect. Super powered suit. ( I had trouble finding details of Lex Luthor's abilities. I would imagine his suit may allow for similar results as Doom's minus the magic)

Manager Jared's Weekly Matchup Poll #11

Two characters with big cosmic powers go head to head in a slug-fest for the ages! Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) will take on The Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd). Who would win?

Abilities:

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan): The Power Ring. The power ring's most distinctive effect is the generation of green, solid-light constructs, the precise physical nature of which has never been specified. The size, complexity, and strength of these constructs is limited only by the ring-bearer's willpower; whatever the wearer imagines, the ring will create. No hard upper limit to the power ring's capabilities has yet been demonstrated and it is often referred to as "the most powerful weapon in the universe."

Silver Surfer- The Power Cosmic. Bestowed on him by Galactus during his service to him, his abilities and assigned elements of influence vary, but the power can usually be expelled violently as concussive force and used with precision as a means to restructure molecules according to the user's mental design.

Manager Jared's Weekly Matchup Poll #3

Its Tuesday again and that means another battle of wit and power! Today's contenders are two of our favorite female heroes. One of them is one-quarter of the Fantastic Four, The Invisible Woman! In the opposing corner is one-third of the famous DC comics Trinity, Wonder Woman!

NOTE: The place of battle has come into question. So allow me to lay the grounds on which these battles take place. It is arena-like, with no objects outside of what each contender is carrying and will most likely be listed amongst the abilities. The are no other objects, barriers, or cover. They can not leave the stadium. Someone referred to the "Hyperbolic Chamber" from Dragon Ball Z.

ALSO, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, WE ARE TALKING CURRENT INCARNATIONS OF THE CHARACTERS MENTIONED!

The contenders' powers:

WONDER WOMAN- Superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, stamina, and durability, flight, hand-to-hand and weapons combat skills, animal empathy, regeneration, resistance to magic and ability to discern truth through use of magic lasso. She has been trained since infancy in the 3000 year old Amazon legacy of armed and unarmed combat and stategy!

INVISIBLE WOMAN- Invisibility. Force field projection grants: Ability to generate protective invisible shields and invisible power blasts as well as flight. Controls and manipulate objects and can generate invisible energy constructs! Susan is a good hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained by The Iron Fist. Her force field generating ability makes the Invisible Woman (arguably) the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four and one of the most powerful Marvel characters, and their deadliest enemy Doctor Doom has commented on many occasions that Sue is the most dangerous of the foursome.

LET THE CONTEST CONTINUE!

We're back again for another bout of the brave! This time we have two characters who have currently taken over the role of their predecessors. Captain America died and afterward his former sidekick Bucky Barnes took over the helm of Captain America, "Defender of the Free!"
Likewise, Dick Grayson, the first Robin took over Batman's cowl to defend the dark and ugly Gotham City.

We recieved many comments with our last bout and would love to see that enthusiasm continue throughout! So without further ado...

The contenders' powers:

CAPTAIN AMERICA- Skilled acrobat, fighter, scout, and assassin. Vibranium-steel alloy shield, Pistol, Superhuman strength derived from cybernetic arm. Trained by Captain America (Steve Rogers).

BATMAN- Acrobat, master martial artist, tactician, detective, and hi-tech gadgets and weapons. Trained by Batman (Bruce Wayne).

Manager Jared's Weekly Matchup Poll #1

Manager Jared here! I'm going to be holding a regular weekly "Versus Contest" by polling all of you on who would beat who! We will eliminate each losing character bracket style, until only one hero stands! The first battle is between two of the biggest powerhouses from the Big Two companies. Feel free to explain why you'd think one or the other will win in the comments section below.

Let the contest begin!

The contenders' powers:

SUPERMAN - Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, senses, intelligence, regeneration, and longevity; super breath, heat vision, x-ray vision and flight.

SENTRY - has the power of 10 million exploding suns. And his power is not limited to any one capability, nor to only his conscious mind. His powers are also said to be virtually limitless as seen in the Dark Avengers when he is killed by Morgan le Fay and then somehow re-materializes in front of the Avengers team back at their HQ. It is also mentioned in the Dark Avengers issues that the Sentry no longer requires most human necessities. He can super-heat his entire body, sterilizing it so he doesn't need to shower, and his digestive system also produces enough nutrients that he doesn't require food or drink.

VOTE! WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, SUPERMAN OR SENTRY?

Mind you, this is pure speculation at this point

I was just at a summit with some industry bigwigs today and the subject of a local (to the South-Central Pennsylvania region) comic book convention came up. A number of ideas were batted around and one of them was: where would a good location for a comic writer/artist convention be for this area? Just as a matter of curiosity I'm turning the question over to you, the readers. Please vote in this poll:

(Un)Suprising Results of the "Skrull Poll"

Here are the results of the "In Marvel Comics' upcoming SECRET INVASION storyline, who do YOU think is a SKRULL? (VOTE FOR ATHREE!)" poll from a couple of weeks back:
  • 46.9% - Ned Senft, for obvious reasons.
  • 31.3% - Joe, manager of the Mechanicsburg store because HE KNOWS EVERYTHING AND MUST BE STOPPED!
  • 28.1% - THE SKRULLS of course, you moron!
  • 15.6% - Captain America/Steve Rogers, because assassination while handcuffed wasn't degrading enough.
  • 12.5% - Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards, because that would make him less boring.
  • 12.5% - Doctor Strange because he's into weird stuff like some kind of nuclear hippie.
  • 12.5% - (Insert name of your personal favorite lame character whose career sure could use the boost.)
  • 12.5% - Stan Lee. Whoops, no longer with the company. Does have ability to shapeshift though.
  • 9.4% - Metamorpho. Whoops, wrong company. Does have ability to shapeshift though.
  • 9.4% - Iron Man/Tony Stark, because he can't be THAT BIG of a jerk. OK, maybe he can.
There you have it! Ned Senft, Manager Joe Hare and the Skrulls are Skrulls. Just as I guessed. Especially that last one. We'll soon find out, as SECRET INVASION #1 ships next week! Meanwhile, watch your backs!

The Monday Morning (double heh) Comix Connection Poll 5/29/07

Well, here's the results of last week's Completely Unscientific Poll Question:

ALL-STAR BATMAN and ROBIN is the greatest comic book in the entire universe because:
  • 35.7% - Best. Comedy. Comic Book. EVER. DC is pulling our collective leg. And you fell for it!
  • 17.9% - It's obvious that writer Frank Miller is trying to win some ridiculous bar bet.
  • 14.3% - It's apparently so lovingly crafted that it takes a freaking YEAR between issues.
  • 10.7% - RATS! The other white meat. It's what's for dinner!
  • 7.1% - Where else can you see an insane, potty-mouthed, child-endangering, cop-killing Batman?
  • 7.1% - Huge continuity glitches like Robin's milk carton appearance 10 minutes after being kidnapped.
  • 3.6% - Where else can you see more teeth kicked out by Black Canary than found in a dental supply catalog?
  • 3.6% - Where else can you see an insane, potty-mouthed, severely conflicted Wonder Woman dissing ALL men?
  • 0.0% - That awesome "Variant Cover" for issue number five says it all.
  • 0.0% - Kidnapped by Batman that is. In a flying Batmobile. While he mows down some of Gotham's finest.
So the consensus is that it's some ridiculous joke or bar bet. Good enough. Still fun to read isn't it?

The Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll 5/20/07

Hokay, we're back again with the results of another Completely Unscientific Comix Connection Poll. Last week's question, with answers ranked:

What Would YOU Like To See At Comix Connection?
  • 23.7% - More Cowbell!
  • 21.1% - More Old Comics!
  • 15.8% - More Ned!
  • 15.8% - More Bill!
  • 7.9% - Less Bill!
  • 7.9% - More S'mores!
  • 5.3% - More Trinkets and Geegaws!
  • 2.6% - More T-Shirts!
  • 0.0% - More Games!
  • 0.0% - Less Polls!
A few random thoughts:
1) More Cowbell it is! We will divert some of our scarce and precious resources to ensuring that in the future, Comix Connection will provide MORE COWBELL! (It's a lot easier and cheaper than providing more old comics.)
2) Actually, I will keep in mind that "More Old Comics!" came in second.
3) I'm glad that Ned and I tied third place. I wouldn't want to disrupt the delicate Ned/Bill balance, or have to face him in a no-holds grudge match to the Death... or be stuck with him like those two guys on that old Star Trek episode where they're wearing opposite black-and-white costumes and they're choking each other for eternity trapped in some kind of mini-timewarp or whatever. That would stink.
4) THAT'S IT. All you sonsofguns that voted for "Less Bill!" are OFF my Christmas card list. And don't ask me to get your books for you - I'M BUSY.
5) Mmmmm... s'mores. Man, I could eat a couple right now, couldn't you? S'mores! Yum!

Thank you all for participating! Except the you-know-whos.

Moving right along, here's this weeks poll question:

2nd - 21.9% Don't they have SHIRTS on Thanagar?
3rd - 18.8% Don't park your car near his house if you just washed it is all I'm saying.

5th - 3.1% Feathers EVERYWHERE!

And to all you mooks who voted for #4... why, I oughta...

Thanks to everyone who voted! Remember, you can't complain if you don't vote!

The Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll 4/30/07

OK, folks... here's the results of last week's Comix Connection Poll Question: "When the Incredible Hulk returns to Earth in WORLD WAR HULK, the VERY FIRST thing he's going to do is:"
#1 - (tie) - Punch Tony Stark/Iron Man so hard he shows up in DETECTIVE COMICS.
- Go home and get a good night's sleep. Wake up, kill everyone on Earth.
#2 - (tie) - Use Tony Stark's skull as beer mug, femurs as chopsticks.
- Give up on civilization and build a cabin beside a pond in Massachusetts where Hulk will write poetry.
#3 - Gather ALL the Illuminati (including Tony Stark) and sit on them until they say "uncle".
#4 - Use Thor like a cheap whiffle ball bat to beat Tony Stark through a bus.
#5 - Find the nearest McDonald's restroom. On way out, order Coke, "supersize" it on a whim.
#6 - (three-way tie with NO votes) - Find his true heart's desire, a truck full of warm Krispy Kreme donuts.
- Get with his counselor to work out his negative feelings. Get angry, throw counselor to Mars.
- Find a phone and call his Mom, then call in sick (again) at work.
Well, there you have it. Looking back, I see these poll answers are slanted towards violence, perhaps in reflection of Hulk's character, which may have skewed the results. Perhaps. Or maybe I just want to see Hulk kick butt.
Thanks to everyone who voted! Remember, you can't complain if you don't vote!

The Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll 4/23/07

OK, let's recap last weeks poll question:

"AQUAMAN is the lamest super-hero EVER because..."
  • Number 1 answer (25%): HEY, I LIKE AQUAMAN!
  • Number 2 answer (20%): His nemesis, Black Manta is cooler than he is.
  • Number 3 answer (15%)(tie): Harpoon hand made out of water? HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW!
  • Number 4 answer (15%)(tie): Comes to top of ocean when you tap fingers on glass.
  • Number 5 answer (12.5%): Has been known to ride giant seahorses. *snicker*
  • Number 6 answer (5%)(tie): The whole "talks to fish" thing is just incredibly lame. How useful can that be?
  • Number 7 answer (5%)(tie): "Harpoon hand"? HAW HAW HAW!
  • Number 8 answer (2.5%): Orange and green. Costume by the Great Pumpkin?
OK, obviously a lot of you are Aquaman fans... sorry about that. About being fans of Aquaman, that is. HAW HAW HAW!
I really think the second place answer gets to the nut of the problem... Black Manta IS much cooler than Aquaman. And that's sad.
And I was disappointed that "Comes to top of ocean when you tap fingers on glass." didn't place higher... that's COMEDY GOLD, people!

Anyhoo, here's this week's Comix Connection poll question:

The Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll 4/16/07

Well here we are again, and the results are in! Last week's poll question "WHO WATCHES THE WATCHMEN?" with 35 of you responding, yielded the following results:

  • 34.3% - I thought you were watching them!
  • 22.9% - I've stopped watching them ever since the restraining order.
  • 11.4% (tie) - They who watch the Watchmen.
  • 11.4% (tie) - The Watcher.
  • 8.6% - The Watchmen watchers.
  • 5.7% - Hey by the way, have you seen my watch?
  • 2.9% (tie) - Me.
  • 2.9% (tie) - You.
Well there you have it. The number one answer is an avoidance of responsibility... the second, an admission of criminal guilt. I'm learning a LOT about you people.

Moving right along, here's this week's fabulous poll:

The Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll 4/9/07

Well the results of last week's Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll are in! The question was "What is the best super-hero adjective?" and here's how you folks voted:
  • 1st place - AMAZING
  • 2nd place - GINORMOUS
  • 3rd place - EXCRUCIATING
Marvel Comics, are you paying attention? The people have spoken! Bring on the GINORMOUS GALACTUS! Let's see the EXCRUCIATING X-MEN! And I think there's already a title with AMAZING, so nothing to see here!

(By the way, here's the rest of the results for those too lazy to scroll down: Tie for fourth was UNCANNY and SPECTACULAR, tie for fifth was BOMBASTIC and INCREDIBLE, SENSATIONAL was sixth, FANTASTIC was seventh, and bringing up the rear was FABULOUS. So to speak.)

Now, on to this week's poll question!

The Monday Morning Comix Connection Poll 4/2/07

OK True Believers, to recap last week's Comix Connection poll question:

"Can Superman rip off his own head?"
  • 8.9% - YES of course he can!
  • 2.2% - NO he can't!
  • 33.3% - NEITHER!
  • 55.6% - WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Hmmmm... I'd say the consensus is that Superman's super-strong neck prevents him from ripping off his own head. That, and there is something desperately wrong with me. Fair enough.
