AND NOW IT'S VAMPIRE BATS!

MUCH LIKE THEIR MYTHICAL NAMESAKES VAMPIRE BATS MUST FEAST ON FRESH BLOOD EVERY 2-3 DAYS OR DIE OF STARVATION.

THEY SEEK OUT WARM-BLOODED MAMMALS THRIVING OFF DOMESTIC LIVESTOCK LIVING IN THE TROPICAL REGIONS OF SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA.

MOST VICTIMS NEVER FEEL A THING AND THE BITE ITSELF IS SUPERFICIAL.

BUT INCREASINGLY BATS ARE TARGETING HUMANS AND THE ENCOUNTERS ARE TURNING DEADLY.

See more HERE!

I'm never leaving my basement again. Maybe I can sic them on the giant-ant-colony-controlled flying squid.

If I had a pet it would have to be a giant prehistoric rodent

I ran across this awesome page on Metafilter. I always thought Capybaras looked weird/cool and thought it would be neat to own one. This lady has one and takes great joy in it. Go read.

BONUS CAPYBARA FACT: Apparently they are also delicious, and make great wallets.

X-Rays from... Scotch Tape?

Yes, X-Rays from Scotch Tape:

Although that may be the lamest power EVER for a superhero, I guess all the Comix Connection Counter Monkeys (who have taped a LOT of comics let me tell you) have the ability to produce X-Rays... if only they would use their power for good...

Brian Linnen sent me THIS LINK to a story about some weird characters who have been showing up at some of England's more prestigious venues.

Is it the Question?

No need to give this guy a big hand

Kent French is the fastest clapper in the world! He's been clocked at 721 claps per minute, or a little over 12 claps per second. Don't believe me? CLICK HERE and watch!

And HERE'S Kent French's website, where I found the following Kent French talents:

Kent can call wild prairie dogs out of their burrows by whistling the theme to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly."

Kent spins rocks on thin lake ice, which if done properly, resonates an eerie echo under the water and creates a humpback whale-like sound that carries above the surface of the ice.

Oooookay.

I'm just hoping he uses his awesome powers for GOOD.

My name is Wahl, Bill Wahl

(NOT a picture of me.)

Did you see me on the front page of the York Daily Record today under the headline "From Sir Sean Connery to this guy?" Behold:

6° of Sean Connery: Qscar-winning actor and knight has ties to York comics store

(Heh heh heh. That's TWO "Bill Wahl" stories in as many days... why don't we just go ahead and declare this NATIONAL BILL WAHL WEEK?)

OK, that's weird

So I was just poking around in SiteMeter, looking at some of the stats for this website and I was checking out the "referrals" section to see how web surfers find our site when I ran across this:

october 18 murder bill wahl

That's right, someone found the Comix Connection website by Googling that group of words. Intrigued, I poked around the Google search results page and found this news item:

Some guy in Springfield, Illinois named William Wahl was murdered!

At least this Bill Wahl made it past October 18th! So did my dad, William G. Wahl.

Like I said, weird.

I know what I'm making my super-hero costume out of.

d3o!

What is d3o?

d3o technology is a specially engineered material with intelligent molecules that flow with you as you move but on shock lock together to absorb impact energy.

Ooooooh, comic-booky! Imagine walking into a biker bar fully clad in this material and shouting "HEY, I JUST KNOCKED OVER ALL THE BIKES IN THE PARKING LOT... WANNA FIGHT?" and then just letting them pummel you. Good fun!

More info on the miracle material d3o HERE at the company website.

Comix Connection flogs Duff Beer in local newspaper article

Read it here, courtesy of the York Daily Record!

Always wanted to try a can of Duff Beer? Comix Connection at West Manchester Mall is selling Homer's favorite beverage, almost.

"It's actually an energy drink," said Comix Connection manager Jared Wolf. The beverage costs $2.49 per 12-ounce can, he said.

Wolf also said the store sells "Simpsons" comic books - which are popular with several customers. One "big 'Simpsons' fan" that was at the store recently donned a new Bart Simpson tattoo, Wolf said.

See the Simpson's Movie, grab a Duff!

The Monday Morning (double heh) Comix Connection Poll 5/29/07

Well, here's the results of last week's Completely Unscientific Poll Question:

ALL-STAR BATMAN and ROBIN is the greatest comic book in the entire universe because:
  • 35.7% - Best. Comedy. Comic Book. EVER. DC is pulling our collective leg. And you fell for it!
  • 17.9% - It's obvious that writer Frank Miller is trying to win some ridiculous bar bet.
  • 14.3% - It's apparently so lovingly crafted that it takes a freaking YEAR between issues.
  • 10.7% - RATS! The other white meat. It's what's for dinner!
  • 7.1% - Where else can you see an insane, potty-mouthed, child-endangering, cop-killing Batman?
  • 7.1% - Huge continuity glitches like Robin's milk carton appearance 10 minutes after being kidnapped.
  • 3.6% - Where else can you see more teeth kicked out by Black Canary than found in a dental supply catalog?
  • 3.6% - Where else can you see an insane, potty-mouthed, severely conflicted Wonder Woman dissing ALL men?
  • 0.0% - That awesome "Variant Cover" for issue number five says it all.
  • 0.0% - Kidnapped by Batman that is. In a flying Batmobile. While he mows down some of Gotham's finest.
So the consensus is that it's some ridiculous joke or bar bet. Good enough. Still fun to read isn't it?

STAN LEE (Media) SUES MARVEL!

I was digging through my "Blog Ideas" files when I came across an old entry about this story and decided to "Google it" for any updates... and lo and behold there was THIS, from the Red Herring business website:
Stan Lee Media sued Marvel Entertainment for $5 billion Thursday, claiming it co-owns Marvel’s superhero characters, including Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Incredible Hulk.

The company is no longer owned by Stan Lee, the comic book legend who more recently hosted the TV series Who Wants to Be a Superhero? on the Sci-Fi Channel, which was produced by his latest company, Pow Entertainment.

In the suit, filed in the Southern District of New York, Stan Lee Media seeks to assert rights to the revenue generated by its superheroes that Marvel Entertainment is profiting from.

I have no idea if this group as any firm ground to stand on, I just thought it was interesting... being sued for FIVE BILLION DOLLARS? That's gotta be annoying.

P.S.: Stan The Man has nothing to do with any of this apparently...
