It's a scene-for-scene recreation of one of the greatest music videos of all time, the Beastie Boys' SABOTAGE, with all images coming fromt the TV show BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.
It just goes to show you that any idea can be turned into a commercial. Remember THIS POST on the Comix Connection website about the college students who sailed a digital video camera to the edge of space? Well, Toshiba took that idea and made a commercial out of it:
It's pretty arresting visually, but I don't see them giving the students any credit for the idea...
(Oh and HERE'S a link to the making of the "Space Chair video...)
Well, they are all dead now except the parade of lame drummers. That's scary.
Oooh, just found this too... an extra-long trailer to one of my favorite movies of all time, 1978's DAWN OF THE DEAD:
It was quite an experience seeing this movie in the theater with my friends (and about ten other people total.) Our brains were sizzling for weeks afterward...
Well what can I say? Certainly personal tragedies are more important to us than the deaths of celebrities. That being said, who can't help but feel a bit sad for the passing of a classic '70s icon, American beauty Farrah Fawcett? Like most young men of the mid-to-late 1970s, I was enamored of Farrah's classic wholesome beauty. Her iconic poster was pretty much everywhere back then. (Here's a neat story about that poster and the guys who produced it.) She became a symbol of that era, cemented by her single season (!) appearance on the TV show CHARLIE'S ANGELS. She WAS the '70s, and truly one of it's icons.
Anyway, I was saddened to hear of her struggle with cancer and of her passing yesterday. In memory, I give you this clip from the movie LOGAN'S RUN (1976):
Check out this trailer for the upcoming Where The Wild Things Are movie, based on the classic children's book by Maurice Sendak:
The movie, directed by Spike Jonze is set for release October 16th 2009.
Thanks for the heads-up everybody who sent a link! (Strangely enough, I never read this book until I had my own kids, so it doesn't resonate with me as strong as it does with a LOT of you.)
Today is William Shatner's 78th birthday and this guy wants to declare March 22 "International Talk Like William Shatner Day". I'm all for that. I mean, we're talking about the guy who brought us so much joy from things like THIS:
A true classic. Happy Birthday, Bill!
Oh and I had to post this video again because it's so awesome.
Shatner and Joe Jackson doing Pulp's "Common People" to the 1970s Star Trek cartoon. Perfect.
Who doesn't love a sci-fi spoof penned by Buck Henry (GET SMART) starring Richard Benjamin about a space-going Garbage Scow and it's crew of misfits? Behold:
HERE'S Part 1 of the pilot episode, with the other parts listed on YouTube.
And who can resist Betty 1 and Betty 2? Captain Quark is in love with the original Betty, has no interest in her clone even though he can't tell them apart!
I found this YouTube video for the opening credits of the television show UFO:
It's awesome, isn't it? My sister and I watched it in reruns in the mid-1970s and I instantly had a crush on the purple-haired Moonbase Girls... that is, until I saw the submarine crew! Whoof!
I used to love this show, as there really wasn't much SCI-FI on TV back in the '70s, plus I was in love with Catherine Schell's character Maya the shapeshifter... the only hotter SF gals were from the submarine crew in the TV show UFO, but that's a story for another day.
(ADDED 11/19: A couple of readers have pointed me to THIS SITE for a much better version of the trailer... unfortunately I can't embed it on the CC website, so I have to send you away from here to view it...)
(I was surprised to see that he did the score to one of the quirkiest movies I've ever seen, 1966's Lord Love a Duck starring Roddy McDowell, Tuesday Weld, and the ever-wonderful Ruth Gordon. Weird movie.)
Strangely enough he has an accent not unlike those found on 21st Century Earth on a group of islands called the United Kingdom:
I remember when David Prowse (along with Jeremy Bulloch/Boba Fett) was a guest at Comix Connection-Camp Hill back in the '90s... David's voice was a bit deeper than that due to adding 20 years to it. Those were some fun times, lemme tell ya. To this day I still brag that BOBA FETT BOUGHT ME A GUINNESS! 'Nuff said.
Too busy to post much here from the store today, so I thought I'd just offer up a couple of classic cartoons for you to peruse today. So park the kids or you big kids in front of the computer, and enjoy!
Oh yes... watch it for yourself! This is very well done!
And while I'm on the topic of the days of the Adam West Batman, it's been reported by Bill Hunt at DigitalBits.com as part of their post San Diego Comic-Con news that:
"We've heard from reliable sources that Adam West is now working on special features for the 1960s TV version of Batman. So it looks as if Fox and Warner may have finally made peace over the series' long-awaited DVD release. Fingers crossed."
Caviezel, who shot to fame playing the role of the idealist private Witt in The Thin Red Line, has been cast in the Patrick McGoohan role as Number Six, the hero who finds himself trapped in a mysterious and surreal place known as The Village, with no memory of how he arrived.
McKellen, who is best known globally for playing Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, will take the role of Number Two, the sinister head of The Village.
Mad Magazine TV Special Unaired Animated Pilot from 1974!
I can't remember where I found this gem:
From the YouTube description:
This was an idea for a potential animated series or series of television specials. When brought to the network executives it was deemed to "Adult" to be shown on television, thus it never made it past this stage.
Does a boomerang thrown in space return to its pitcher?
Yes:
From The New Scientist:
The boomerang behaved no differently than on Earth, flying back to Doi after he threw it. "It flew just like on Earth, and I was really surprised and impressed," Doi told his wife in a chat from space, according to Japan's Mainichi Daily News.

Jared, Jason R. and a few other people sent me this a while back, and it's finally grown on me. One of the reasons that I was not so enamored of it was that I wasn't watching a lot of TV shows during the time when most of these logos were running. Anyway, behold:
Can you name all the shows/companies these logos are spoofing? HERE's a link to the wiki on this video to help get you started.
Today all I have to offer is this clip from the incredibly craptacular 1994 FANTASTIC FOUR movie... behold the agony of Ben Grimm - this man, this MONSTER:
I know what I'm making my super-hero costume out of.
d3o!
What is d3o?
d3o technology is a specially engineered material with intelligent molecules that flow with you as you move but on shock lock together to absorb impact energy.
Ooooooh, comic-booky! Imagine walking into a biker bar fully clad in this material and shouting "HEY, I JUST KNOCKED OVER ALL THE BIKES IN THE PARKING LOT... WANNA FIGHT?" and then just letting them pummel you. Good fun!
More info on the miracle material d3o HERE at the company website.
I was rooting through my bookmarks the other day when I realized I hadn't popped in over at Josh Middleton's place in a while. Well, I forgot just how astonishingly good his work is. Go poke around over there and see all the magnificent works in progress... simply amazing. And if you have time, watch this:
That is too too cool. Probably due to the fact that I am in no way artistically talented, I love watching the creative process involved with comic art. It's a constant source of amazement for me to see ideas come out of a mind and become fully formed on paper. I love it. Keep it up Josh! (More Middleton goodness HERE.)
I've never been a huge fan of Iron Man from Marvel Comics and was pretty ambivalent about the upcoming film... until they showed us this trailer at the Diamond Retailer Summit in Baltimore on Monday:
Holy mackerel, that almost made me faint! Very very cool!
Release Date: May 2nd, 2008, which as you all know is right before FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2008!
(Oh, and HERE'S a link to better quality video... enjoy!)
This one tells a story (not a good one) in ultra-cool comic-booky form! If you like the Marvel comic book CRIMINAL by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, you'll love this.

Is this one by DANIELSON. I find this video incredibly creative. I just love the (all done-in-one-take) low-budget, high school play-feel of this video for the song "Did I Step On Your Trumpet?". Check it out:
While at Rutgers University,
(Daniel Smith) submitted the album as his final thesis (and received an 'A' grade) and performed, joined by his siblings, at the senior art show. Smith then sent the album out to several indie labels but only received a response from Tooth & Nail in California, who picked up the album and released it in 1994.
Oh, and here's where Daniel got the title of the song:
The song is called “Did I Step On Your Trumpet” and it is inspired by the time I got accused, by Billy, of stepping on his trumpet when he got up to go get a drink of water. It was 6th grade band practice and Billy had a special silver trumpet that was passed down through his family. When he got back the entire bell of the trumpet was completely crushed flat. He yelled at me in front of the entire band and I denied it immediately. I really do not know if I stepped on it or not. I feel like I may have.
So if you accidently offended someone, politely say, “I’m sorry, did I step on your trumpet?“
Pretty accurate on the predictions. Hard to believe they were from fourteen years ago, isn't it? I think I was online with my SCREAMING 1440K modem in 1993. Seems like a whole 'nother world.
Apparently my friend Steve's is that he can play PAC-MAN on a world-championship level.
Behold:
Steve sez:
My best run at Pac-Man CE on Xbox Live Arcade, currently #1 in the U.S. and #3 in the world on the All Time 5:00 Championship Mode leaderboard. I didn't die once, but I think it's still possible to improve... I missed a few 3200 point ghosts and made a couple of minor mistakes.
OK, I realize this is another fan-made "trailer", but it looks GREAT! Very very cool. Wouldn't it be neat if there was a TV series called "Batman Legends" that would retell classic comic book stories like this? I'd watch.
Grip is a video clip for the band zZz. Grip is a one take, top shot videoclip with professional trampoline gymnasts simulating typical video effects. The video has been recorded live as part of the opening 'Nederclips' at the Stedelijk museum 'S-Hertogenbosch SM'S (Curated by Bart Rutten).
It also might help to be familiar with MACs and IPODs to get some of the references. I really liked the guy painting the "taskbar" at the bottom...
Ned sent me these hilarious videos from YouTube. I guess they started out as parodies of MAC vs. PC commercials, but they seem to have taken on a life of their own...
